Real Salt Lake Acquire Colombian Winger Carlos Andrés Gómez from Millonarios FC

HERRIMAN, Utah - With a Club-record transfer fee, Real Salt Lake have finalized details to acquire 20-year old forward Carlos Andrés Gómez from Colombian power Millonarios FC, the clubs jointly announced today. Pending receipt of both a U.S. work visa and the required International Transfer Certificate (ITC), Gómez will join RSL during its 2023 preseason preparations via Major League Soccer's U22 roster mechanism. Gómez arrives on the Wasatch Front under contract through the 2027 MLS season, with a player option for 2028.

"This is an exciting day for our Club as we bolster a strong returning core with a dynamic attacking addition in Carlos Andrés Gómez," said RSL Grneral Manager Elliot Fall. "Andres is a player that quickly rose to the top of our target list over the last several months and we are very pleased to be able to finalize his acquisition. His athleticism and creativity will be a welcome addition to our stable of attacking players. We look forward to getting him to the Wasatch Front shortly and integrating him to our group as we pursue hardware across multiple fronts in 2023."

As both a right- and left-sided winger with Millonarios FC in his native Colombia, Gómez scored 12 goals in 58 professional appearances during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns. Three of Gómez' goals came during the Copa Colombia competition, for which he earned the tourney's Golden Boot award en route to the 2022 championship.

Born in Quibdó, Colombia, on 12 September 2002, Gómez utilized his speed and versatility to break out for Millonarios FC in 2022, scoring all 12 of his goals for the club during 50 games across multiple competitions in the calendar year. Gómez made his professional debut in November, 2021, appearing in eight matches that season, prior to finding the back of the net for the first time in May, 2022. A late August / early September stretch saw Gómez score a pair of braces 5 days apart to lead Millonarios to 4-1 and 2-0 victories, in addition to the 5-8, 145-lb wingers Copa Colombia heroics in 2022.
