
Real Monarchs SLC Hosts Western Conference Final on Saturday against El Paso Locomotive FC

HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC is set to host the USL Championship Western Conference Final when it welcomes El Paso Locomotive FC to Zions Bank Stadium on Saturday, November 9 at 1:00 p.m. MT. The match will determine the conference champion and who will represent the West in the 2019 USL Championship Final on November 17.

Real Monarchs advanced through to the Western Conference Final for the first time in its history after claiming victory over the 2019 regular season title winners Phoenix Rising FC last Friday. Despite Rising FC finding the opening goal in the 25th minute, Real Monarchs staged a first half comeback through an equalizer from MF Jack Blake in the 33rd minute and the game-winning strike from MF Maikel Chang in the 43rd minute.
After last Saturday's result between El Paso Locomotive FC and Sacramento Republic FC, the Locos have makes its first appearance in the Western Conference Final. Earning a dominating 3-0 scoreline, El Paso came out on top over Republic FC to continue its storybook run during its inaugural season. Real Monarchs will now pit its dominate 24-4-6 (78 points) home record since 2018 against the 2019 expansion side as the two sides fight for Western Conference supremacy.
The winner of Saturday's match will visit the winner of Saturday's Eastern Conference Final as two-time defending champion Louisville face off against Indy Eleven.

At the end of the 2019 Regular Season, Real Monarchs SLC has seen 22 unique players tally a goal in a Monarchs jersey. The attacking front is led by Honduran International FW Douglas Martinez, who earned the club's Golden Boot with recorded 16 goals as well as 6 assists across 22 appearances. Meanwhile, MF Maikel Chang and Team Captain Jack Blake continued to provide a meaningful presence in the midfield providing a combined 21 goals and 7 assists as of October 19.
In front goal, USL Veteran DF Noah Powder has made himself a mainstay on the backline with 29 starts and 30 appearances so far this season. Paired with fellow defenders, Kalen Ryden, Jordan Pena, Konrad Plewa, and Erik Holt the Monarchs backline solidified to help push the team to its third top-four finish in as many years to make its third consecutive playoff appearance.
In goal, GK Andrew Putna and GK David Ochoa paired to a combined goals against average of 1.45 sharing 2,610 minutes. The two each earned four clean sheets to record eight total throughout the 2019 Regular Season. Putna finished off his season making an appearance on the USL Championship Week 32 Team of the Week, having made 32 saves in 15 appearances. Ochoa made 54 saves in 16 appearances as well as having been featured for the USMNT U-20 team. Ochoa returned to Utah after featuring in two matches of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup where he tallied one shutout and was named to the 2019 MLS Homegrown Game roster.
