Real Monarchs News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs shut out the Tacoma Defiance 1-0 at Zions Bank Stadium on Friday night to earn the team's first victory in over a month. A first half goal from midfielder Luis Arriaga was enough to give the Monarchs their fifth-consecutive victory against Tacoma.
The Monarchs started the first forty-five on the front foot, earning eight corners and nine shots. Following a corner in the 12th minute, Monarchs defender Nicolás Giménez saw his header bounce off the crossbar and back into the field of play to spur a Tacoma counter attack that almost resulted in a goal the other way. In the 26th minute, Monarchs midfielder Dayonn Harris sent a cross into the box that found the head of Arriaga for the lone goal of the match.
Tacoma looked to level the match in the 85th minute with shots by midfielders Azriel Gonzales and Daniel Robles, but consecutive saves by goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton preserved the full three points for the Monarchs. With the victory, the Monarchs remain undefeated at home all-time against Tacoma Defiance.
UP NEXT: Real Monarchs will host Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Zions Bank Stadium on Wednesday, September 9 at 8:00 p.m.
