Austin Bold FC News Release
Austin, TX - The Bold enter the most critical week of the 2020 USL Championship season this Saturday at Bold Stadium as they take FC Tulsa. This match is the first of two meetings between the two sides in four days, with the second being on Tuesday. The Bold and Tulsa are tied with 13 points, with Austin having the slight advantage of goals scored to keep them in a playoff spot. Positive results in these two matches can give Marcelo Serrano's men a cushion in second place leading into the final five games of the season. The first battle between Austin and Tulsa this season didn't reveal much as it ended with a 2-2 draw at ONEOK Field. Catch this match, and all other Austin Bold FC matches, on ESPN+.
Billy Forbes Named to Team of the Week
Billy Forbes was having a month. The 29-year-old striker has really come into his own in August, scoring six goals in seven matches. This run of form was vital in getting The Bold into a Group D playoff spot leading into this weekend. Forbes hasn't gone unnoticed. USL Championship recognized Forbes for his Week 10 performance that saw him net three goals in two matches against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and OKC Energy FC. Forbes' contributions go beyond goalscoring. He has fit perfectly into Marcelo Serrano's new counter-attacking approach by forcing backlines to drop deeper and deeper to combat his pace, which opens up the midfield. Forbes chalks his goals up to two simple things. Hard work and luck. "For me, as a player, it just feels good to get a chance to play forward. It really comes down to hard work. I've been getting lucky being at the right spot at the right time, and the ball has been going into the back of the net for me. I'm really happy about that."
Battle for Playoffs
It's simple.
This weekend is a must-win.
Bold and Tulsa are tied on points and battling for the final Group D playoff spot. Whichever team makes the most of these two games will go set themselves up nicely for the last five matches of the regular season. Let's get it.
Aldo is Bold
The Bold Familia just keeps growing. Aldo Quintanilla joins Austin Bold FC for the remainder of the USL Championship season. Quintanilla played for Rio Grande Valley FC Toros in the 2018 and 2019 USL Championship seasons. During his time in Edinburg, the 25-year-old scored five goals and tallied four assists in 22 matches. Quintanilla made one appearance with MLS side Houston Dynamo during their 2018 U.S. Open Cup-winning run in the fourth round, scoring two goals against NTX Rayados. Before moving to RGVFC, Quinanilla's career began in his native Mexico in the Santos Laguna academy system making appearances for the U20 side and reserve team. In 2017, he moved to Queretaro and spent time with their reserve squad. "I'm very excited to arrive at this club, which has achieved a lot in a short time. I'm also grateful for this opportunity in these difficult times," said Quintanilla. "The supporters can expect me to work hard to get a spot in this team, score goals, and win matches."
