Minot Minotauros News Release
by Ken Oda
Minot, ND - It took until the final night of the regular season in the always tight NAHL Central but the final seedings are set and the Minotauros will battle the Bismarck Bobcats in the opening round of the Robertson Cup Playoffs. The Tauros had locked in the number two seed on Friday night by virtue of their win over the Brookings Blizzard and Bismarck loss to the Austin Bruins, but had to wait for the winner of Saturday's Bismarck/Austin game to find out who would be coming to the Maysa Arena next Friday. When the Cats won 6-2 on Saturday it became official that the Subway Cup rivalry would continue into the post-season and that the Bruins would head to Aberdeen to take on the first place Wings.
The Tauros went 7-5-0 against the Bobcats this season winning all six games in Minot and the final meeting of the season in Bismarck. Tauros veterans Taylor Lantz, Keenan Lund, David Raisanen along with Swedes Wilmer Skoog and Didrik Henbrant all tied for the team lead with four goals against the Cats this year as the Tauros depth was on display against Bismarck. Goaltender Nicholas Grabko had five of the Tauros seven wins against the Cats with a .918 SV% and 2.45 GAA.
This will be the second playoff meeting for the in-state rivals. The Tauros swept the Bobcats in three games in the first round of the 2015 Robertson Cup Playoffs when the Tauros were also the number two seed. The Divisional Rounds (first and second rounds) of the Robertson Cup Playoffs are best-of-five series.
