RazorSharks sign former Duke star

The Rochester RazorSharks of the American Basketball Association announced today the signing of Chris Carrawell, a 6'6" forward who was the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Year his senior season at Duke University. Carrawell, drafted in the second round of the NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs in 2000, has five years of professional basketball experience.

Carrawell will join the RazorSharks veterans in their inaugural training camp in mid-October as the team prepares for the ABA season opener on Saturday, November 5 at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena against the Buffalo Rapids.

Carrawell is one of only two players in ACC history to win four consecutive outright ACC regular season championships at Duke University. He finished his college career tied for 21st on Duke's all-time scoring list with 1,455 points. Carrawell was voted Second Team All-American by the Associated Press and First Team All-American by the NABC in his senior season in 2000.

"Chris is a player with a winning basketball background", said Brendan Rooney, the RazorSharks Director of Player Personnel. "He is a multi-skilled and versatile player who can play 3-4 different positions, is a great defender on the ball, can handle the ball offensively and can score when called upon"

The 27 year-old native of St. Louis, Missouri has played professionally in Italy, Puerto Rico, Lithuania, the Philippines, Germany and Australia as well as with Asheville (NBDL) in the United States. He helped the Sydney Kings (Australian League) win the league championship in 2004 by averaging 13.5 points per game and seven rebounds.

Rochester currently has Demond Stewart (Niagara), Lazarus Sims (Syracuse), Eric Coley (Tulsa), Caswell Cyrus (St. Bonaventure) and now Carrawell under contract for the 2005-2006 season.
