An appeal from Steven Jaloza

September 28, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Muttontown, NY. This is Steven Jaloza (I'm pictured after a training run with Jessica). Last year, I ran in the NYC Marathon to bring awareness to, (and raise money for finding a cure) for a terrible disease called NF (neurofibromatosis). Thank goodness, my friend's daughter isn't and neither are the other tens of thousands of people afflicted. My friend's daughter, Jessica, looks healthy and acts healthy. She is the cutest little three year old that you have ever seen. When I think about the devastation that could be in store for her, the tears start flowing. Then I go to NF (The Children's Tumor Foundation) meetings and hear the stories about the other kids and their operations to remove their tumors...well, I'm sure you can imagine. I am not a good fund-raiser. I can run, but I stink at raising money for charity. I feel guilty asking for money and I feel guilty asking for help. I am asking for help in both.

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a debilitating genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow randomly throughout the body on the nerve sheaths. NF occurs in more than one in 4000 births, more than Cystic Fibrosis, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Huntington's Disease combined. Any amount will help. You can either donate directly through my NF web page, www.active.com/donate/nfrunsnewyork/sjaloza or you can send a donation to The Childrens Tumor Foundation, c/o Steven Jaloza, 215 Saddle Lane, Muttontown, NY 11791. My legs are killing me, but I know it is worth it.

Steve. Look for a check from the ABA...and good luck to Jessica and you. You did just fine in your money raising.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
