Rayz sign Justin Quenneville
October 3, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
The Corpus Christi Rayz signed center, Justin Quenneville on Tuesday, lifting their training camp roster to 24 players, Rayz General Manager, Larry Linde announced. Quenneville is a third-year forward who has spent time in both the United Hockey League and ECHL. He will make his Central Hockey League debut this season with the Rayz. Quenneville was the second leading scorer on the ECHL's Phoenix Roadrunners last season. He and the Rayz are less than a week away from the start of training camp, which opens on Monday, October 9th.
Quenneville, 24, played for the Roadrunners and Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL last season. He finished with a combined 12 goals and 30 points in 47 games. A year prior, in his rookie season, the 5'11", 180lbs. Montreal, Quebec native appeared in two games for the Richmond Riverdogs, before playing 57 for the Missouri River Otters. With 17 goals and 36 points, Quenneville helped lead the River Otters to the post-season. In the playoffs, the youngster continued his strong play, scoring four goals in six games.
Rayz Head Coach, Ken McRae said that Quenneville has garnered a solid AA-hockey reputation in his first two seasons of play.
"Coaches that I've talked to all agree that Justin can be a quality center at this level of play," he said. "He's good with the puck and does a great job of feeding his wingers. We can use him on the power play and penalty kill. His addition will give us a lot of depth among centers, and it will make training camp even more competitive at that position."
Before turning pro, Quenneville played four seasons of NCAA hockey at St. Michael's College. In 99 collegiate games, he posted solid numbers with 59 goals, 70 assists, 129 points and 128 penalty minutes.
The Rayz also announced their involvement in the "Karwash 4 Kids" taking place this Saturday, October 7th at the Walgreens on Airline and McArdle. From 11:00am-3:00pm, the Rayz Ice Girls and team mascot Stinger Ray will be washing cars to raise money for Dirscoll Children's Hospital.
