Two more forwards added to Scorpions roster
October 3, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), signed two more young players to their roster. Forwards Bobby Kukulka and Ryan McLeod will be on the ice Monday, Oct. 9 when the Scorpions hit the ice for training camp.
Kukulka will provide added experience up front. The McComb, Mich. native, spent the last two seasons in the United Hockey League (UHL) with Flint and Richmond. In 146 games, the 22-year-old has scored 52 points (26G, 26A) and registered 231 penalty minutes.
"Bobby is a guy with professional hockey experience," said Scorpions Head Coach Ray Edwards. "We know he can score and will add valuable experience to our relatively young group of forwards."
McLeod is the tenth rookie the Scorpions have inked to a contract. The center played for two seasons at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. He showed scoring ability in college collecting 17 goals and 22 assists in his 49 collegiate games. The Fernie, B.C. native, spent 13 games with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL near the end of last season.
"By spending time in the ECHL last season he understand what it takes to play at the professional level," said Edwards. "Like the rest of our younger players, the key is how they get their mind and body in shape to face the challenge of playing at this level."
The Scorpions will christen the new state-of-the-art Santa Ana Star Center on Friday, October 27, when they face the Arizona Sundogs at 7:35 p.m. This season the Scorpions feature 22 weekend home games. The schedule can also be viewed and printed by visiting www.scorpionshockey.com/schedule.
