Rayz set to open camp

October is finally here, and the Corpus Christi Rayz officially open their 2004 Training Camp on Monday, October 11th. The Rayz will have their first practice under new Head Coach, Ken McRae at 9:00am on Monday. All Rayz practice sessions will be at the Memorial Coliseum and are open to the all media and Rayz fans. A complete training camp schedule is listed below.

The Memorial Coliseum will play host to four pre-season games over the next two weeks, as well as serve as practice homes for the Rayz, New Mexico Scorpions and Mexico National Hockey Team. All pre-season exhibition games begin at 7:05pm, offer general admission seating and are only $5 per seat. Tickets are available by calling (361)814-7825. The Rayz exhibition game schedule begins on Thursday, October 14th, concludes on Monday, October 18th and is listed in the complete training camp schedule.

In addition to the regularly scheduled practices and games, the Corpus Christi Rayz will hold a very special event on Tuesday, October 12th at 1:15pm at the Memorial Coliseum. Special training camp guest and current Philadelphia Flyers Head Coach, Ken Hitchcock, will be available to all fans and media members on Tuesday. Hitchcock will be assisting in the Rayz and Scorpions training camp this season. A fan and media Q&A session with Hitchcock, McRae and Scorpions Head Coach, Bill McDonald will take place at the Igloo. Rayz and Scorpions CEO and President, Doug Frank will be on hand for the event, as will Rayz General Manager, Larry Linde. This unique setting will offer fans and media members to discuss a variety of topics with two of the elite coaches in the CHL and one of the most respected Head Coaches in professional sports in Hitchcock. Local fans who best know Hitchcock for his 1999 Stanley Cup championship with the Dallas Stars will now have the opportunity to get up-close and personal with the man who brought the first ever Stanley Cup to Texas. This Tuesday at the Memorial Coliseum at 1:15pm, it's a can't miss for every hockey, Rayz or sports fan. Everyone is encouraged to come out and take part in this one-of-a-kind event. Monday, October 11th

9am – Noon Rayz officially open training camp on ice with practice at Memorial Coliseum. All media and fans are welcome to attend.

Tuesday, October 12th

9am – Noon Rayz practice at Memorial Coliseum

1:15pm – 2:00pm Fans and Media Q&A with the trio of coaches at the Memorial Coliseum. All Rayz fans and Corpus Christi media members are encouraged to come out to the Coliseum and participate in a Q&A forum with Philadelphia Flyers Head Coach, Ken Hitchcock, Corpus Christi Rayz Head Coach, Ken McRae and New Mexico Scorpions Head Coach, Bill McDonald.

Wednesday, October 13th

9am – Noon Ken Hitchcock joins the Rayz for the first time on the ice and helps conduct this practice session.

Thursday, October 14th

9am – 10:30am Rayz practice assisted by Ken Hitchcock

7:05pm Corpus Christi Rayz vs. New Mexico Scorpions in the first exhibition game of the pre-season schedule.

Friday, October 15th

9am – 10:30am Rayz practice assisted by Ken Hitchcock.

7:05pm At the Memorial Coliseum ~ Laredo Bucks vs. New Mexico Scorpions

7:30pm Corpus Christi Rayz @ Austin Ice Bats (Rayz second exhibition game)

Saturday, October 16th

9am – 10am Ken Hitchcock runs his pre-game skate at morning practice

7:05pm Corpus Christi Rayz vs. Mexico National Hockey Team in a historic meeting at the Memorial Coliseum. This marks the first time that the Rayz have ever played an International Team and the first trip that Mexico makes to the United States to play a sanctioned hockey game.

Monday, October 18th

7:05pm Corpus Christi Rayz vs. Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in the final professional hockey game EVER at the Memorial Coliseum. Corpus Christi is invited to a fond farewell at the Igloo as the Rayz will play their final exhibition game of the season, as well as the final Rayz game at the Coliseum. This is a must see game for any long-time Rayz fan who has been with the team since the beginning. Join the Rayz as they say good-bye to a Corpus Christi landmark.
