
Rayz Add Forward Bloomingburg

The Corpus Christi Rayz have signed forward Jason Bloomingburg, Rayz Head Coach Ken McRae announced on Thursday afternoon. Bloomingburg is a rookie who has appeared in ten pro games in the ECHL at the end of last year and the beginning of this season. In order to make room on the roster, the Rayz waived defenseman Gregg Johannesen late Wednesday afternoon. Bloomingburg joins the Rayz for this weekend's games in Laredo on Friday Night and Odessa on Saturday. Corpus Christi begins a season-long, five-game road trip on Friday Night. The Rayz will return to the American Bank Center on November 24th when they host the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Military Appreciation Night. Bloomingburg, 25, joins Corpus Christi after appearing in four games for the ECHL's August Lynx. While there, the 5'10", 200 lbs. forward had one goal and nine penalty minutes. Prior to this season, Bloomingburg attended training camp with the Fresno Falcons, and last year played six games with the Alaska Aces, where he also tallied one goal. Before turning pro, the Canton, MI native played four seasons of collegiate hockey. Bloomingburg played as a freshman at Providence College, and then finished up his college career with three seasons at Wayne State. Bloomingburg finished in the top five in team scoring in each of his three years at Wayne State, and was second in points as both a sophomore and senior.
Johannesen, 25, made the Rayz roster after earning a spot in training camp. The defenseman appeared in six games for Corpus Christi before being waived.
