The Bucks will look to improve to 3-0 this year against their division opponent Friday. In Laredo's two wins this season over Corpus the Bucks have outscored the Rayz 9-0. Laredo won their October 26th home opener over Corpus 7-0, then followed that up with a 2-0 white-washing two days later in Corpus. Reigning CHL goaltender of the month Dustin Traylen picked up both shutouts in the Bucks net.
If Traylen starts Friday night and wins, he will be the first Bucks goalie to win his first six starts of the season. Traylen comes into Friday's game at 5-0, joining Marco Emond as the only two Laredo net minders to start a season 5-0. Emond did it during the 2003-04 season.
Laredo has outscored their opponents 50-12 through their first nine games, and has posted four shutouts, two by Traylen, and two by rookie goaltender Kevin Beech. The Bucks had four shutouts all of last season.
The Bucks have four players in the top 10 in the CHL in scoring, led by veteran Jeff Bes. Bes has scored eight goals, with 11 assists for 19 points. Chris Korchinski is second in the league with 15 points (5-10=15), while rookie Brent MacSween (8-4=12) and James Hiebert (7-5=12) are tied for eighth with 12 points. MacSween leads the league in power-play goals with six. Laredo also has nine of the top ten players in the league in plus/minus, led by defenseman Adam Rivet who stands at +18.
The Rayz come in to Friday's game having knocked off previously unbeaten Youngstown on Sunday in Corpus. The Rayz beat the 'Hounds 3-2 in a shootout, with Brent Howarth netting the game-winning goal in the shootout.
Corpus Christi is led in scoring by Joe Blaznek (1-6=7), Geno Parrish (3-2=5), and Howarth (3-2=5). Jason Tapp has seen the majority of the minutes in net for the Rayz, including starting the two games against the Bucks. In the second game against Laredo this season Tapp played well stopping 32 of the 34 Laredo shots on net. Overall this season Tapp is 2-4-1 with a 3.02 goals against average, and a .918 save percentage.
If the Laredo and Youngstown both win Friday night it will set up a showdown Saturday at the LEC, not only putting the Bucks one win away from breaking the CHL record for most consecutive wins to start a season, but also pitting the last two CHL teams without a regulation loss against each other. The the league is calling the Bucks/'Hounds game a "SUPERBOWL" type match-up.
Tickets are available by calling 718-BUCK (2825), or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
