Odessa Jackalopes News Release

ODESSA, TX - For the second straight night, a lackluster third period doomed Odessa, as the Jackalopes coughed up a 2-0 third period lead and fell to the Corpus Christi IceRays by a 5-2 final score Saturday at Ector County Coliseum. With the loss, the Jacks fell to 5-23-2 this season and with 12 points, remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL's South Division standings.

After a scoreless first period, Odessa broke the ice midway through the second with a pair of power-play goals, first from Lawrence Cornellier at 12:22, assisted by Matt Volonnino and Zane Popilock, and then John Feemster buried his first career NAHL goal at 13:05 on feeds from Anthony Olgiun and Matt Montemurro. Cornellier's goal, his team-leading 16th of the season and 29th point, was the Machesney Park, Illinois native's eighth power-play marker this season, the NAHL's second highest total this year.

Odessa entered the third period in control with their 2-0 lead intact, but Corpus Christi quickly took over, potting a goal from Perry D'Arrisso less than two minutes into the period, back-to-back Rudy Sulmonte tallies at 7:56 and 10:23 and insurance markers from Emil Romig at 13:16 and a D'Arrisso empty netter at 18:29 to salt away the 5-2 win.

Phil Heinle entered the final frame with a 24 save shutout still alive, but the York, Pennsylvania native ended up allowing four third period to goals for the second straight game, winding up with 39 total stops on 43 shots faced. The Odessa power-play connected on two of its five chances, snapping a four-game scoreless streak with the man advantage and the Jackalopes penalty-kill shut down Corpus on five of the 'Rays' seven man-up chances.

Next up for the Jacks, it's the first of an eight-game road swing as the Jacks drop the puck on a two-game weekend series in Amarillo on Friday at Cal Farley Coliseum at Amarillo Civic Center with the opening faceoff set for 7:00 pm.

In 2012-13, the Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their second season as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season ticket packages for the Jacks' sophomore campaign are available now starting at just $179.
