Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release

Jamestown, NY- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings got goals from Robbie Payne and Brendan Vetter, but they weren't enough, as the Jamestown Ironmen skated to a 3-2 overtime victory for the second straight night on Saturday evening.

After a back and forth first ten minutes of play with neither team able to capitalize and find the back of the net, Kalamazoo's Brendan Vetter was able to break the scoreless stalemate. Vetter's shot was able to sneak past Jamestown goalie, Reid Mimmack, on its way into the goal for the second of the season by Vetter.

It would be the only marker of the period, as the goal gave the Jr. K-Wings a one-goal advantage after the first twenty minutes of play. The Ironmen were able to outshoot Kalamazoo 12-9 in the opening frame.

Just a handful of minutes into the second period, the North Division leading Ironmen would draw the game even at one apiece. While falling to the ice, Evan Ritt, put the puck on net, and it trickled through the pads of Kalamazoo goalie, Marcus Due-Boje. The game-tying goal was the seventh of the season for Ritt.

All signs pointed to the teams to make their way into the third period tied for the second straight night. However, with just ten seconds left in the second period, Jamestown's Ross Pavek was able to beat Due-Boje for his eighth of the season, giving his team their first lead of the night heading into the third period.

Nearing the halfway point of the third, and trailing by a goal, the Jr. K-Wings would deadlock the game at 2-2. Robbie Payne was on the doorstep and poked in his 16th of the season off a blue-line shot from Brett Beauvais.

In a mirror image of the night before, neither team was able to score in the final period, with the 2-2 tie score after regulation, the game went to a five-minute overtime. Through regulation, Due-Boje had made 30 saves, while MImmack make 22.

With time dwindling down in the overtime period, the Ironmen's Luc Gerdes drove the goal and was able to stuff in the game winner. It was his team leading 16th of the season, and gave Jamestown a further edge over Kalamazoo in the divisional standings.

The Jr. K-Wings will hit the ice again on Sunday, December 30th, as they take on the Johnstown Tomahawks in the first game of a back-to-backs on the road.
