The game between the Soo Eagles and the Michigan Warriors was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Soo emerged with a 3-2 win.
Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Jared VanWormer's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.
The Eagles were led by VanWormer, who racked up one goal. VanWormer scored 10:41 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Soo. Eric Rivard picked up the assist.
By firing 40 shots on goal, Soo exceeded the 29.6 shots it averages per game this year.
Soo additionally got points from Alexander Taulien, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Soo also got a goal from Pat Thompson as well. More assists for Soo came via Alex Robert, who had two.
Michigan's offense rang up 44 shots on the Eagles' net.
The Warriors were helped by Martin Gruse, who tallied one goal. Gruse scored on the power play 16:45 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Michigan. Michigan had gotten the advantage when Soo's Matt Menta was sent off for too many men. Darren McCormick provided the assist. Jon Farkas also scored for Michigan. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan were Zack Szajner, Colin Larkin, and TJ Stuntz, who each chipped in one.
Tyler Marble made 42 saves for the Eagles on 44 shots. Soo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Dillion Kelley recorded 37 saves for the Warriors. Michigan incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
