Rays and Braves Split Doubleheader

The Princeton Rays and Danville Braves had a doubleheader at Hunnicutt Field on August 11. Danville took the first game, beating the Rays 5-3. The Braves scored three runs in the second and two in the third inning. Princeton scored two runs in the third and one in the seventh. The winning pitcher for the Braves was Matt Custred. Ethan Clark took the loss for the Rays. The Rays won the second game of the doubleheader, 4-1. Princeton scored one run in third, one in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth inning. Danville put one run on the board in the sixth inning. The winning pitcher was Spencer Moran for Princeton. Danville's Daniel Cordero took the loss.

Princeton is first in the Appalachian League East standings at 28-20. Danville is fourth in the East with a record of 22-25.

In the second inning of the first game, Danville put three runs on the board. Kurt Hoekstra scored from a double by Justin Ellison. Trey Keegan made it home off of a sacrifice fly by Juan Yepez and Ray-Patrick Didder singled to bring Ellison home. Danville scored two more in the third off of two home runs, one by Austin Riley and the other by Hoekstra. The Rays scored two runs in the third. Jon Popadics made it home off of a passed ball by the catcher. David Olmedo-Barrera doubled as Peter Maris scored. In the seventh, Popadics, for the Rays, scored off of a ground ball by Landon Cray. The Rays came away with a win in the second game of the doubleheader, 4-1. The first score came from the Rays in the third inning as Blake Butera made it home from a double by Zac Law. In the fourth, Brett Sullivan scored off of a ground ball by Angel Perez. Popadics scored in the fifth as Zac Law grounded out. In the sixth, for the Braves, Didder scored from a ground ball by Hoekstra. The Rays put one more on the board in the sixth as Sullivan scored from a sacrifice fly by Jamie Mitchell.
