Elizabethton, TN - The Greeneville Astros split a doubleheader with the Elizabethton Twins on Monday night by scores of 5-3 and 2-3. The two seven-inning games were scheduled to make-up the July 3rd game at Joe O'Brien Field which was postponed due to rain. At the end of the night, the Astros maintained their hold on first place in the Appalachian League West division with a season record of 25-21, one and one-half game ahead of Elizabethton (24-23).

The Astros took game one of the doubleheader with the Twins by a score of 5-3 thanks to some late inning offense. Joselo Pinales picked up the win for the Astros while Jose Abreu got the loss for the Twins.

Greeneville struck first as Daz Cameron continued to impress at the plate by slugging his second triple of the year to score Myles Straw and give the Astros a 1-0 lead in the third inning. For Straw, it was the one of two runs scored in the game to give him 32 on the season, moving him ahead of teammate Osvaldo Duarte for first place on the team in the category and third in the entire Appalachian League.

Jose Hernandez got the start for the Astros and pitched four full innings of one-hit baseball. He allowed just one run to score on a sacrifice fly while picking up his 26th strikeout of the season. Hernandez's night was cut short as the game entered a rain delay after the fourth inning with the score tied at 1-1.

The Twins struck back, after the skies cleared up, to take the lead 3-1 in the fifth inning thanks to a Kamran Young two-run homer.

Joselo Pinales entered the game to pitch in the sixth inning and picked up two strikeouts while lowering his ERA to 3.09 on the season. His one and one-third scoreless innings of work marked his third consecutive appearance in which he has not allowed the opposing team to score.

The Astros rallied for four runs in their last two innings to retake the lead and win the game 5-3. Osvaldo Duarte and Brauly Mejia both smacked doubles in the sixth inning to score two runs, and a throwing error by Twins shortstop Manuel Guzman scored two more in the seventh, giving the Astros the 5-3 victory.

The Astros lost game two of the doubleheader with the Twins 2-3 on a two-run walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning. Anthony Mciver picked up the win for the Twins while Alejandro Solarte was accredited the loss for the Astros.

Yhoan Acosta started the game for Greeneville on the mound. He pitched five complete innings while allowing just one run and striking out five. Acosta now leads all Astros pitchers in strikeouts (35) and innings pitched (32.1).

The Astros were the first to score in the game, once again. Kyle Tucker led off the second inning by sending a fly ball to right field for his fourth double of the season. He advanced to second on a Rodrigo Ayarza groundball and was knocked in on an Osvaldo Duarte RBI single to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.

The Twins tied up the game in the bottom of the fourth by stringing together two singles and a double. A.J. Murray picked up the RBI by sending a line drive to centerfield to score Daniel Kihle from third and tie the game at 1-1.

Myles Straw had a very impressive game at the plate, going three-for-three with two doubles and a RBI. Straw knocked in Ford Stainback from second base with a single in the fifth inning to give the Astros a 2-1 lead.

Entering the bottom of the seventh inning the Astros still held on to a 2-1 lead. However, a couple of costly walks, a sacrifice bunt, and a well hit Daniel Kihle RBI-single to left field soon took the game away from the Astros as the Twins won 3-2 in walk-off fashion.

The Astros will return home to face the Twins at Pioneer Park on Tuesday, August 11th. The game will begin at 7:00 PM with gates opening at 6:00 PM.
