Arizona Rattlers News Release

ROSEMONT, IL.-Sherdrick Bonner threw six touchdown passes, four of them to Randy Gatewood, to help the Rattlers earn a 56-44 victory over the Chicago Rush. The victory clinches the Rattlers (9-6) eleventh consecutive winning season.

The Rush and Rattlers played evenly during the first quarter, but a 28 point second quarter helped Arizona to a 35-24 halftime edge. Bonner threw for 238 yards on 21-30 passes to go along with his six scoring tosses. Gatewood had seven catches for 78 yards with his four scores, giving him 30 touchdowns on the season.

The two teams traded touchdown scores, until Charlie Morris batted a Billy Dicken pass into the air. The ball landed in veteran lineman Mark Tucker's hands for Tucker's first career interception. The Rattlers converted the turnover for seven and a fourteen-point lead, a lead which they held onto until the final horn. Dicken finished the game 18-32 for 221 yards, four scores, and one interception.

Terence Davis, filling in for the injured Orshawante Bryant, had eight catches for 83 yards and a touchdown to lead all Rattler receivers in receptions. Rookie Tom Pace, a college tailback, scored his first rushing touchdown of the season. Pace has now accounted for points five different ways. Pace has caught a touchdown, run in a touchdown, returned an interception for a touchdown (twice), and recovered a fumble for a touchdown. Pace has also thrown a touchdown pass.

Hunkie Cooper continued his stellar season, accounting for 174 all-purpose yards. Cooper had five receptions for 61 yards and a score, and returned four kickoffs for 106 yards. He ran the ball once for seven yards.

The Rattlers close out the regular season in the Mile High City, traveling to Denver to take on the Colorado Crush on Sunday.
