Rattlers take down the SaberCats

PHOENIX, ARIZ - The Arizona Rattlers (12-2), narrowly defeated the San Jose SaberCats (5-8) on Saturday night (June 18) coming back from a 14-point second half deficit to win 64-57. With the win, Arizona clinched the West Division of the National Conference at the US Airways Center.

QB NICK DAVILA completed 22-of-33 passes for 270 yards and seven touchdowns, finding WR JASON GEATHERS four times in the endzone. Geathers finished the game with eight catches for 73 yards and the game-winning 12-yard touchdown with ten seconds to go in the game.

Also making an impact in the passing game was WR KERRY REED, pulling in four catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns. WR ROD WINDSOR paid dividends by grabbing a clutch two-point conversion after the late Geathers touchdown, sealing up the final score and the West Division Title.

On the defensive side of the ball, DB VINCE HILL collected an interception at the 10-minute mark of the first quarter of a scoreless game, bringing his season total to six interceptions. DB VIRGIL GRAY helped spark the Rattlers' win, returning two kickoffs for touchdowns, his his fourth and fifth of the season. Coming off of injured reserve, DL RON JONES started the game, recording two tackles and a pass breakup.

San Jose QB Mark Grieb went 26-of-40 for 285 yards and six touchdowns. WR Marco Thomas was a factor, pulling in 10 catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Trailing 49-35, Gray scored his second touchdown of the night on a 54-yard kick return to bring the Rattlers back within seven.

With 10:50 to go in the fourth quarter, LB TYRE GLASPER recovered a critical fumble on a botched snap to help gain back momentum for the Rattlers. On the next Arizona offensive possession, Reed tied the score at 49-49 with a 23-yard touchdown grab with 9:55 to go in the contest. After trading scores, Arizona marched down the field on a 13-second drive to produce Geathers' game winning score.
