
Rattlers Sweep Weekend Home-And-Home Series with Long Island

The Rochester Rattlers edged the Long Island Lizards 17-15 at James M. Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University on Saturday, July 7. Steven Boyle was named the Bud Light Player of the game with three goals and two assists. Jordan MacIntosh scored three goals, giving him 13 goals in the past three games. The Rattlers beat the Lizards for the second night in the row Saturday; sweeping the Lizards on the season. Last year, the Rattlers dropped both games to the Lizards.
The Lizards struck first at 4:17 when Matt Gibson scored a left-handed goal from outside the goalie crease. The Lizards scored again at 4:46 when Tommy Palasek finished a shot in front of the net off of a pass from Brian Langtry. The two man tandem scored again at 6:03 when Langtry netted a low ball off of a short pass from Palasek. Gibson scored his second of the quarter at 13:05 after stepping up to the goal line and getting a low shot past Goalie John Galloway. Rattler Stephen Boyle scored the Rattler's first goal in transition at 14:17. At 14:46 Rattler Matt Striebel scored a 2-point goal from 17 yards on a powerplay caused by Chris Passavia illegal body check. The Rattlers finished the quarter with the momentum, despite trailing 3-4.
Lizard Greg Gurenlian won the opening faceoff for the second quarter and immediately passed it to Palasek who scored only seven seconds in. The Rattlers answered quickly when Dan Hardy scored off a shot on the low left side of the cage that sent it to the right corner. The Rattlers scored again at 4:09 when Roy Lang finished a wide open shot goal off of a Ned Crotty passes from behind the net. Jordan MacIntosh scored at 7:08 on a shot in front of the goalie's crease. Lizard Max Seibald scored an unassisted goal off of a shot from 10 yards at 7:59. Dan Hardy scored a no look shot from behind the back in front of the goal for the Rattlers at 11:56. Lizard Albert Maione was flagged with a unsportmanlike conduct personal foul at 13:07. Maione was penalized for a total of six minutes between the second and third quarters. The Rattlers lead after the first half 7-6.
The Rattlers opened up the scoring in the third quarter when MacIntosh scored at 1:10 off of a short pass to the middle from Boyle. At 2:20 Boyle scored his second goal of the night after working his away from around the back side of the goal to the front and turned and scored. The Rattlers scored their third unanswered goal of the second half off a shot from six yards by MacIntosh at 4:39. Crotty scored his first goal of the night at 8:07 with a goal after rolling around the crease and dropped his stick for a low shot that sunk to the back of the net. Maione scored an unassisted goal at 9:00 to end a 17 minute goal drought. The Lizards scored again at 9:56 from a hard shot 10 yards out by Stephen Peyser. At 13:08 Brad Ross scored a 2-point goal from the top off a Boyle pass. Peyser answered with two unassisted 2-point goals of his own at 13:39 and 14:20. The Rattlers lead 13-12 after 45 minutes, but Peyser's goals shifted the momentum towards the Lizards.
All-Star Joel White scored his 4th goal on the season 11 seconds into the fourth quarter. Rattler Rob Rotanz scored an unassisted goal at 1:32, and Will Koshansky netted another from a Steve DeNapoli pass at 2:01. Lizard Grant Catalino beat a Rattlers double team and scored at 4:59, and added on another goal at 6:50. Mainoe scored the third unanswered goal for the Lizards at 10:48. Leading 16-15, Boyle scored a pivotal goal on a shot clock buzzer beater at 13:42. The Rattlers would hold onto the ball for the remaining seconds to secure the win.
