Charlotte Hounds News Release
The Charlotte Hounds won their second straight game Saturday night, beating the Chesapeake Bayhawks 13-12 in front of 5,013 fans at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte. Matt Danowski was named Bud Light Player of the Game for a 6 point performance that included the game-winning, 2-point goal in the game's final seconds.
The Hounds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Justin Turri and Danowski, but the Bayhawks responded with a three-goal run of their own to pull ahead 3-2 with 3:36 left in the first quarter. Stephen Berger tied it back up, but Steven Brooks would score with less than a minute remaining to give the Bayhawks a 4-3 advantage heading into the second.
Much like the first quarter, the Hounds started the second with back-to-back goals, this time from Billy Bitter on the crease and Jovan Miller from the air, to take back the lead 5-4. Brooks would score his second of the game for the Bayhawks, but the Hounds kept the advantage going into halftime as Brian Carroll scored on a man up opportunity, his sixth powerplay goal of the season, making it 6-5.
The Bayhawks took control in the third quarter, starting with a goal by Michael Kimmel for the fifth tie of the game. More than nine minutes would go by with the teams knotted 6-6 before Danny Glading tallied his second of the game to pull the Bayhawks ahead 7-6. Then, with 13.2 seconds left in the quarter, John Grant Jr. ripped a 2-pointer to give the Bayhawks a 9-6 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
The teams traded goals before Turri scored his second of the game on the man-up, and then Jeremy Boltus added a goal that pulled the Hounds within one, 10-9, with 6:04 to go in the game. Kimmel responded with a 2-point goal that then gave the Bayhawks a 12-9 lead. However, it would be the last goal they would score in the game. Danowski scored back-to-back and it was suddenly a one point game with 1:25 to play. A holding call on Kyle Dixon would then give the Hounds the opportunity to finish the game on the man-up. Danowski took advantage and rather than go for the tie, he ripped a point-blank 2-point goal to win the game 13-12 for the Hounds.
Adam Ghitelman had 20 saves on 30 shots to anchor the win.
The Hounds (3-6) now kick off a four-game road trip, starting with a contest against the Outlaws (6-3) at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on July 14. The teams first met Week 1 in Charlotte, and the Outlaws got the 21-12 win.
