Charlotte Hounds News Release

Charlotte, N.C. - QCSC in partnership with the Charlotte Hounds and Southern Select Lacrosse Showcase announced today the inaugural the Crown Lacrosse event at The Sportsplex at Matthews, in Matthews, N.C on March 8 and 10.

"We are bringing the Crown Lacrosse to the Carolinas to celebrate the continued growth of this great sport down south," Southern Select Lacrosse Showcase Founder Chris Schiller said. "This is a thank you to all of the youth, club, high school coaches, parents, players and volunteers who have exposed this beautiful game to so many of our boys and girls here. To be able to bring high level Division I lacrosse teams here for multiple days has been a vision of ours for years. Providing this experience for the lacrosse player/fan or even someone looking to get into the sport is something we are proud to bring to Charlotte."

The Lacrosse Crown is the first independent college lacrosse tournament to be held in Charlotte, and will feature four of the nation's premier programs - Cornell Big Red, Jacksonville Dolphins, Penn State State Nittany Lions and Towson Tigers.

"I think it is an awesome opportunity for everyone involved, especially for us to have the opportunity to go down and compete in a premier event with other top-caliber Division I teams," Towson lacrosse head coach Shawn Nadelen said. "We are big believers in doing as much as we can to help the sport of lacrosse grow and develop."

The Crown is highlighted by three preseason Top 25 selections. Cornell ranks fourth in US Lacrosse Magazine's Top 25 preseason poll and finished last season 12-4 while reaching the quarterfinals of the 2018 DI Men's Lacrosse Championship Penn State ranks 12th and reached 14th in the DI coaches poll in 2018. Towson ranks 18th in the poll and finished 26th in the NCAA Men's Lacrosse RPI rankings in 2018 after reaching the semifinals of the 2017 DI Men's Lacrosse Championship. Jacksonville reached the final of the 2018 SoCon Men's Lacrosse Championship.

In addition to bringing high-level lacrosse to Charlotte, a portion of the proceeds and in-game fundraising events will benefit the first responders of the Carolinas.

"This also gives us an opportunity to thank our first responders who serve our communities every single day 24/7," Schiller said. "I've seen it first hand how these men and woman dedicate their time/lives to answer the call when our community needs it. To put their life on the line literally to save ours, we are honored to be donating and actively raising money during The Crown for these amazing people."

Tickets for the two days are on sale now and can be purchased here. For more information visit thecrownlacrosse.com
