Boston Cannons News Release

Hamilton, Ontario - The Boston Cannons improved to 6-3 with a win over the Hamilton Nationals (2-6) tonight, 15-13. Ari Sussman was named Bud Light Player of the Game for his career-high five goals and one assist to lead the Cannons offense with six points. Ryan Boyle (2 goals, 3 assists), Kevin Buchanan (2, 3) and Paul Rabil (1, 4) all contributed five points in the win.

The Nationals started the scoring on Brice Queener's first goal of the season, but the Cannons answered immediately as Chris Eck won the ensuing face-off and beat goalie Scott Rodgers on a bounce shot. Matt Poskay scored two man-up goals in the quarter and Sussman, playing in his first game since May 5, notched his first on a crease dive and the Cannons ended the quarter ahead, 4-3.

Hamilton controlled the second quarter on four goals from Cody Jamieson, Stephen Keogh, Kevin Crowley and David Earl. Buchanan scored and then assisted Sussman on a power play to keep the Cannons within one as the Nationals took a 7-6 lead into the break.

Rabil, held without a point in the first half, contributed two assists and a diving goal in the third quarter. Sussman added two more and the Cannons moved ahead 10-8 entering the final 15 minutes of play.

Earl and Jamieson each completed a hat trick for the Nationals in the 10-goal fourth quarter, but it was not enough as five Cannons scored, including Martin Cahill's first goal of the season on a behind-the-back assist from Rabil, to seal the victory.

"A lot of my goals were products of my teammates," Sussman said. "The middies were dodging a bunch and I was able to find the open spots on the crease and cut to them and score."

Cannons goalie Jordan Burke finished with 18 saves to lead the Cannons defense. Burke leads all MLL goalies with a 9.95 goals against average and .578 save percentage.

The Cannons travel to Long Island next Saturday, July 14 to face the Lizards at 7pm. The Lizards beat the Cannons, 13-10, on June 9 at Harvard Stadium.
