Arizona Rattlers News Release

Phoenix, AZ - The Arizona Rattlers have signed quarterback Joe Germaine (6-2, 220, Ohio State) to a contract, the team announced today. As per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Germaine spent time with the NFL's St. Louis Rams, earning a Super Bowl Championship ring in 1999. He also was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2001 and Cincinnati Bengals in 2002.

Germaine began his career at Mesa's Mountain View High School, where he set a school record with 3,782 passing yards, while completing 59% of his passes to go along with 39 touchdowns. After being selected by the Colorado Rockies in the Major League Baseball draft, he turned down a bonus to play football at Scottsdale Community College. He shined at SCC, throwing for 2,729 yards and 15 touchdowns in one season. From there he moved on to Ohio State, amassing 6,370 passing yards, 56 touchdown passes, and a 59% completion rate. He is also remembered for leading the Buckeyes to a victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils in the 1997 Rose Bowl. He was named Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year and All-Big 10 Conference in 1998, his only season in Columbus as the full time starter. Germaine started only 13 games in his OSU career, but left the school having set or tied eight passing records

"We're excited to bring Joe back to the Valley," said Gene Nudo, Rattlers Vice President of Operations. "You look at his numbers at Ohio State, and the Super Bowl ring on his finger, and you just know the kid can play. I think he will be a very important part of our future."

"I'm excited to play at home. It's been a long time since I've been able to play football in front of my family and friends," Germaine said. "I'm excited to get to stay home to play with a great franchise and a great team like the Arizona Rattlers."

The Rattlers quest for a third straight ArenaBowl begins in February. For season ticket information, call 602-514-TDTD or visit www.azrattlers.com.
