Maywood Laguneros News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 8, 2004) - The American Basketball Association (ABA) Long Beach Jam franchise signed guard Rasul Salahuddin today. Salahuddin, a former Long Beach St. 49er, played for the Las Vegas Rattlers of the ABA last season.
Perhaps the biggest Jam crusher of them all last season, Salahuddin' team played three consecutive games in Long Beach at the end of the regular season. The guard scored 39 points in 38 minutes in the first game, 30 points in the second, and ended the regular season by dropping 44 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds against the eventual league champions.
"When a player of Salahuddin's incredible talent is available, you make sure you sign him," President Steve Chase said. "He had our number last season. It will be nice to see him in a Jam jersey this year."
In two years at Long Beach St., Salahuddin averaged 9.3 points (1994-95) and 13.3 (1995-96) points per game.
The Jam are holding open basketball tryouts this Sunday, Oct. 10 at the Pyramid in Long Beach beginning at 11 a.m. To try out, please call 562-799-8100 for more information.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
