River City Rascals News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The River City Rascals were stunned by the Washington Wild Things in the middle game of their series on Wednesday night, as JR Davis delivered a two-run, walk-off single to give the Wild Things the 4-3 victory. Taylor Ahearn was stellar in a no-decision for the Rascals, allowing just one run on four hits in seven innings with a season-high nine strikeouts on the night.
The Rascals once again jumped out to an early lead, on James Morisano's two-run double in the top of the second inning. The Things made it 2-1 with Alex Murphy's lead-off homer in the bottom of the frame. Neither team would score again until the fifth, when Trevor Achenbach came in on a wild pitch to make it 3-1 Rascals.
The Rascals took that 3-1 lead to the bottom of the ninth where the first three hitters all reached for the Wild Things, on a walk, an error and a bunt single. The Things made it 3-2 by scoring on a wild pitch, and after Blake Adams struck out, Davis delivered the finishing blow to give Washington the 4-3 win.
Wild Things starter Josh Lapiana took a no-decision, allowing three runs, two earned, in 5 2/3 innings. Reliever Jesus Balaguer (3-3) earned the win, while Rascals closer Jason Zgardowski (1-1) suffered the loss. Just one of the three runs Zgardowski allowed was earned due to the error.
The Rascals (33-28) and Wild Things (26-36) play the rubbermatch of their series tomorrow night, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. CDT. Austin Dubsky is expected to make the start for the Rascals in the finale.
