Rascals Hold on for Win over Otters

O'FALLON, Mo. - The River City Rascals defeated the Evansville Otters 6-4 in the middle game of their series on Saturday night, evening the series at a game apiece. Travis McQueen (3-0) was stellar for the Rascals, taking a three-hit shutout into the seventh inning, before the Otters were able to get to him late. He finished the night allowing three runs in seven innings with one walk and six strikeouts.

The Rascals scored the first five runs of the game, starting with an RBI groundout from Zach Lavy in the second inning. They added two more in the third, on a bases-loaded walk from Braxton Martinez and a sacrifice fly from Nolan Meadows. Lavy and Martinez added sacrifice flys in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. After Carlos Castro put the Otters on the board with a two-run shot in the top of the seventh, James Morisano delivered an RBI single for the Rascals in the bottom of the frame to get a run back.

Evansville drove in two more runs in the eighth, on a pair of RBI ground-outs, to narrow the gap. Despite Jack Meggs reaching on a lead-off error in the ninth, Rascals closer Jason Zgardowski retired the next three hitters in order to earn his fourth save.

Otters starter Anthony Arias (1-1) suffered the loss in his first professional start, allowing three runs in three innings.

The Rascals (26-23) and Otters (28-21) play the rubbermatch of the series tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m. CDT from CarShield Field in the final game for both teams before next week's All-Star break. Brendan Feldmann will take the mound for the Rascals in the finale.
