River City Rascals News Release

O'FALLON, MO - The River City Rascals committed five errors and allowed seven runs over the final three innings of the ball game as Florence defeated the Rascals 9-7 to put an end to their eight game losing streak. The loss prevented River City from picking up their second sweep at T.R. Hughes Ballpark this season and dropped them into second place in the Frontier League West Division.

The Rascals looked poised to win their third in a row against the Freedom when they took a 5-2 lead heading into the 7th inning. Eric Chevalier drove in Eddie Kim in the 5th inning with his second triple of the season to give River City a 3-2 lead. Chevalier would come around to score when Florence starter Mitch Goins uncorked a wild pitch that put the Rascals in front by a pair. River City would take their largest lead of the game on a Kirk McConnell home run to right field; his first of the season.

But in the 7th, Florence would send 10 men to the plate against Rascals' bullpen scoring five runs on three hits and a costly error by 2B Adam Yates. The Freedom's Kyle Geswein doubled in two runs as Florence took a 7-5 lead entering the 8th inning. The Rascals came back to tie the game in the eighth when John Santor scored on an Eddie Gonzalez single and Eddie Guessford scored on a dropped pop-up by Freedom left-fielder Chris Brown.

Florence then scored two more times in the 8th inning courtesy of another River City throwing error by Santor that gave the visitors a 9-7 lead. The Rascals loaded the bases in the bottom of the 8th but Guessford was called out on strikes to end the River City rally. Only five of the nine runs scored by the Freedom were earned as a result of the defensive miscues made by the Rascals. The loss spoiled what was the best performance of the season by St. Peters, MO native Steve Brook. Brook took a no-decision after allowing one earned run and struck out seven in six innings.

Following a league wide off day, River City will travel to Chillicothe for a three game series against the first place Chillicothe Paints. The team returns home for a weekend series against the Evansville Otters on Saturday, June 10th. It will be Batter Up to Fight Breast Cancer Night sponsored by Johnny Mac's and the Suburban Journals. The Rascals will wear pink uniforms which will be auctioned off at the conclusion of the ballgame. For tickets, call (636) 240-2287 or visit them online at www.rivercityrascals.com.
