Tennessee Valley Raptors News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – United Indoor Football's suspension of the Dayton Warbirds for the 2005 season has forced a pair of schedule changes for the Tennessee Valley Raptors.

The Raptors will now play April 1 against the Sioux City Bandits at 7:05 in Iowa and host the Sioux Falls (S.D.) Storm on June 18 at the Von Braun Center. Both games were previously scheduled contests against Dayton.

Tennessee Valley's schedule remains the same and the Raptors' home opener is set for April 16 against the Tupelo Fireants at the VBC. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and every fan in attendance will receive a "Ninth Man T-shirt".

Raptors owner Art Clarkson said that his team's schedule was now tougher and better if anything. Instead of playing an expansion club, the Raptors will face a Sioux City team that's been in operation for five years and host Sioux Falls, which also has five years of indoor experience and finished as Pacific Conference champions and runner-up in Indoor Bowl IV last season.

"We're eliminating an expansion team and making our schedule very, very hard,'' Clarkson said. "Both teams are experienced, but on the good side of the coin for all ticket holders and everybody else, pocket schedules are the same and there are no changes in the dates we are playing at home."

On Thursday the UIF announced Dayton's suspension. The action was taken by a vote of league directors Wednesday after careful consideration of the circumstances relating to the Warbirds ownership and operational capabilities. It followed a board decision the previous week to postpone Dayton's first home game. League Executive Director, Dakota Crow, reiterated that the reason for the suspension involves the team's ownership and operational capabilities.
