Rapidz win preseason debut

(OTTAWA) May 18, 2008 - The Ottawa Rapidz hosted the Quebec Capitales for their lone preseason game of their inaugural season. The final score of the game was 7-6 for the Rapidz. Dallas Strankman earned the win, while Jason Schutt was the losing pitcher. Angelo Burrows was credited with the save.
In the top of the second inning, the Capitales took a 4-2 lead after the first three batters were walked and Jose Contreras hit a two-run double to tie the game. Josh Colefemina hit a single to drive in another run and Mike Goss finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Pitcher Noel Baca III entered the game for the Rapidz in the top of the sixth inning, putting in a solid effort. After allowing a lead-off single to Contreras, he shut down the Capitales. The Rapidz and Baca showed solid defense by turning a 1,4,3 double play to start the top of the seventh.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Kyle Geiger and Jose de los Santos both got aboard the bases with Jabe Bergeron and Sambu Ndungidi both hitting RBI singles for the Rapidz to take the lead and win the game.
The teams decided to play an extra inning, which proved nothing, as the final score remained 7-6 for the Rapidz.
The next preseason game had been scheduled for Monday May 19th in Quebec City; however, it has been cancelled due to a high probability of inclement weather.
The Ottawa Rapidz will be hosting an intrasquad game tomorrow Monday, May 19th at Rapidz Stadium. Stretching will begin at 11:00am, followed by the 9-inning game starting at 12:30. Members of the public are encouraged to attend with no charge for admission.
