Rapidz Name New Team Managers

OTTAWA (September 5, 2008) - For the Ottawa Rapidz, the 2009 season begins today with a focused and energetic mix of baseball and business talent already at work to make next season a success.
Rob Hall, owner of the Ottawa Rapidz announced today that Tom Carcione is officially taking over the team as Manager and Shelagh O'Connor is promoted to General Manager, responsible for the business operations of the Rapidz.
Carcione, who began last season as the team's hitting coach, took over as field manager mid-season when former manager, Ed Nottle, was released. The team responded to his leadership with an energetic, make-something-happen brand of baseball.
"Tom came in under difficult circumstances both on and off the field, and he held this team together," said Hall. "Our win/loss record is nothing to brag about but we had a stronger second half and Tom has earned the right to build this team and lead it next year."
Carcione has managed college and professional independent baseball teams and came to Ottawa after 10 seasons as a player, and eight as a coach. He was drafted in the 10th round of the 1988 MLB Amateur Draft by the Oakland Athletics, and reached double-A with Huntsville in 1990.
Shelagh O'Connor, who served as the team's Director of Marketing and Sales last year, moves into the General Manager's position and will be responsible for the day-to-day business operations of the team.
"Shelagh has proven herself to be a smart and effective manager," Hall said. "Her job will be to continue to integrate the Rapidz into the City's sport and business community and to build the relationship with baseball fans in Ottawa."
