
Rapidz emerge victorious to begin week

(OTTAWA, ON) June16, 2008 - On a night that honoured fathers everywhere, the fathers at Rapidz Stadium were witness to the first ever complete game by an Ottawa Rapidz pitcher. Orlando Trias pitched nine masterful innings leading the Rapidz to a 6-2 win in front of an excited crowd of 2,137 at Rapidz Stadium.
The Capitales drew first blood, scoring one run in the top of the third inning. After a leadoff single by Issael Gonzalez followed by a double by Mike Goss, Geof Tomlinson grounded out to second to score Gonzalez, resulting in a 1-0 lead for the Capitales.
After Jared Lemieux made a tremendous diving catch in centre field to end the top of the fourth, the Ottawa Rapidz carried the momentum into the bottom of the inning. Kyle Geiger lined a single into centre field to start the inning and was advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly by Felix Escalona and Jose Salas respectfully. Pete Pirman picked up his 15th RBI of the season on an infield single which scored Geiger to even the score at 1-1.
The Rapidz continued their offensive output scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Juan Infante and Jabe Bergeron both singled and were driven home on a one out double by Kyle Geiger to give the Rapidz a 3-1 lead after five innings.
Quebec answered back in the top of the sixth, scoring a run to cut the Rapidz lead to 3-2. Patrick Deschenes doubled into right-centre field and was driven home on a single by Pat Scalabrini.
The Rapidz continued their rally into the seventh, scoring three runs and chasing Quebec starter Erick Nadon from the game. Jabe Bergeron, Kyle Geiger and Jose Salas all singled and scored after Jared Lemieux singled to drive in the final run for a commanding 6-2 lead after seven innings.
Ottawa pitcher Orlando Trias (1-3) earned his first win as an Ottawa Rapid as well as his first complete game. He pitched nine complete innings, allowing only two runs (both earned) on seven hits, while walking two and striking out four. Erick Nadon (1-2) earned the loss for the Capitales, pitching 7.2 innings, allowing six runs (all earned) on 12 hits, while walking two and striking out five.
The Rapidz continue their three game series against the Quebec Capitales Tuesday, June 17 for "St. Paddy's Day in June" and Wednesday, June 18 for "Serata Italiana" at 7:05 pm. Tomorrow's matchup will feature North Gower native Fraser Robinson (1-1, 3.58 ERA) for the Rapidz against Luis Valdez (4-0, 0.42 ERA)
