Colorado Rapids News Release
TAKING THE FIRST POINT FROM THE UNDEFEATED: The Rapids' 0-0 tie against the Revolution on Saturday, May 28th at Gillette Stadium marked the first time this season that a team was able to take any points away from the undefeated club during a visit to New England. The Revolution was able to fly on a four game undefeated streak coming into that Saturday's game, but the Rapids, who were missing key starters in Jean Philippe Peguero, Pablo Mastroeni and Luchi Gonzalez, were able to come up with an important point from the trip to the Northeast. A point that at the end of the season could mean the difference between making the playoffs, or not.
RAPIDS RESERVES VS. NEW ENGLAND RESERVES: The Colorado Rapids Reserves took on the Revolution Reserves on Sunday, May 29th at 8:00 a.m. (MT) in a game played at the Revolution training field just outside Gillette Stadium. Despite dominating most of the action throughout the first half, the Rapids fell behind in the opening minutes of the second half, when Revs midfielder Connally Edozien beat goalkeeper Byron Foss from five yards out. The Rapids Reserves responded in the 71st minute when forward Eugene Sepuya netted the tying tally. Sepuya beat goalkeeper Doug Warren to his right side. The Rapids Reserves (1-2-2, 5pts.); led by Assistant Coach Steve Trittschuh will take on the Columbus Crew Reserves on Saturday, June 11th at Crew Stadium immediately following the 2:00 p.m. (MT) ESPN2 game between the first teams.
MELAMED OUT, BUT NOT QUITE: Rapids midfielder Guy Melamed, who was shown two yellows and a red card during last Saturday's match against the Revolution, will serve a one game suspension during the next Rapids MLS Regular Season match. Despite not being able to play with the first team in the game against the Crew on Saturday, June 11th, Melamed will still travel with the Rapids and will most likely be utilized by Assistant Coach Steve Trittschuh during the Reserve Game that same afternoon. Melamed should be available to return to the Rapids' starting lineup when the Black and Blue take on the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday, June 15th at 7:30 p.m. at INVESCO Field at Mile High.
VISITING CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL: This Friday the entire Rapids team will perform their annual visit to Children's Hospital. All the Rapids players, coaches, the Rapids Cheerleaders, and RapidMan will visit with sick kids at Denver's Children's Hospital, this Friday, June 3 from 12:30-1:30pm. This annual community event is huge morale booster for the children there who are hospitalized for long periods of time, especially in the cancer wards and other urgent care sections of the hospital. The Rapids will sign autographs, pose for photos, and visit with kids Friday afternoon. Photos from the event will be posted next week on ColoradoRapids.com.
