COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - For the second straight week, the Colorado Rapids used a game winning header in the second half to earn a 1-0 victory, taking the first leg in a home-and-away series against Toronto FC Saturday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Conor Casey recorded his 12th goal of the season extending his lead in Major League Soccer's Golden Boot race, as he finished a Jacob Peterson cross in the 51st minute to lift the Rapids into sole possession of third place in the Western Conference.
The win was Colorado's eighth of the season at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, the most the Rapids have won at home since the stadium opened in 2007 and the most home victories by any club in MLS this season.
Toronto was held scoreless for a third consecutive match and finished the game with only nine men on the field following red card ejections on Amadou Sanyang and Adrian Serioux in the 76th and 84th minutes.
These two teams will face off again next Saturday, September 12 at 1:30 pm MT at BMO Field to conclude their regular season series.
