Rapids Suffer First Defeat

The Colorado Rapids suffered the team's first defeat of the 2004 preseason today with a 3-0 loss to Spanish Second Division team Málaga B, dropping their record at an impressive 5-1-2.

The goals for the Spanish club came in the last 30 minutes of the game, two of them from the run of play and a third one off a penalty kick. The Rapids' best scoring opportunities, two one-on-ones against the goalkeeper, came in the first half, but were denied by the local keeper, who closed his net once to Zach Kingsley and the other one to Zizi Roberts.

The team continues with their preseason schedule when they take on local club Antequera this Saturday, March 13 at 8:00 a.m. (MT).

The Rapids will return to Denver on March 17th in order to begin their final preparations for the 2004 season that will include a tune-up match against the MetroStars on March 27 in San Antonio, TX.

Colorado opens its ninth MLS season with a match against the Dallas Burn on Saturday, April 3 in Dallas, TX at 6:30 p.m. (MT). The Rapids are slated to open their home schedule two weeks later when they host the 2002 MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy at INVESCO Field at Mile High.
