On the Road Again: Galaxy to Play in Fresno Saturday

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: GALAXY TO PLAY IN FRESNO SATURDAY: Fresh off a 2-1 defeat of the San Jose Earthquakes in Santa Barbara last Friday, the Los Angeles Galaxy hit the road for another exhibition match this weekend. This time. The Galaxy travel to Fresno, California to meet the Fuego, who play in the Premier Development League. The game, Saturday March 20 at 7 pm., will be a re-match of last year's U.S. Open Cup fourth-round match, won by the Galaxy 3-1 at The Home Depot Center on August 6. Tickets for the match cost $13 dollars in advance ($10 for students presenting ID) and are available at DeCisco Soccer and Fresno Indoor Soccer..

GALAXY AND LA OPINION JOIN FORCES ON DYNAMIC DEAL: La Opinión, the largest Spanish language newspaper in the country, today also became the "Official Spanish Language Newspaper of the Los Angeles Galaxy" during the 2004 and 2005 Major League Soccer seasons, the club and the newspaper have announced. Under the provisions of the agreement, La Opinión will be branding and promoting the recently created General Admission section, "La Doce - the 12th Man," in the north end of the stadium at The Home Depot Center for all Galaxy home games. In addition to lending their name to this area of the stands, La Opinión will be offering families of four the chance to sit in the section at substantial savings if they purchase their tickets in advance, giving Latino families in Southern California the chance to watch high-quality MLS action at an extremely affordable price.

GALAXY DEFEAT ‘QUAKES 2-1 IN PRE-SEASON MATCH IN SANTA BARBARA: The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 in front of a raucous crowd on March 12 at Harder Stadium on the campus of UC - Santa Barbara. Goalkeeper Dan Popik recorded his second consecutive preseason victory. San Jose would open the scoring first as forward Dwayne De Rosario converted a penalty kick in the 21st minute. In the second half, Los Angeles leveled the score at 1-1 in the 50th minute off a brilliant strike from midfielder Arturo Torres. Following a loose ball at the top off, Ngwenya won the header in the air and nodded the ball wide for Torres at the top of the box. Torres took the pass off the first hop and blasted a volley high past the ‘Quakes Onstad off the bottom of the cross bar and into the goal. In the 84th minute, Los Angeles finally took a 2-1 lead from a classic Carlos Ruiz finish off an amazing through ball by the club's latest acquisition Andreas Herzog. From the behind the center circle in the Galaxy's half, Herzog used his dangerous left foot to play a perfect through ball over the defense and on to the foot of Ruiz, who beat a sliding Onstad with a deft chip over the ‘keeper.

CALIFF NETS EQUALIZER IN ADDED TIME AS USA AND HAITI TIE 1-1: The U.S. Men's National Team pulled out a 1-1 draw with an inspired and spirited Haiti National Team in an international friendly at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Fla. on Saturday, March 13. Galaxy defender Danny Califf rescued the United States with his first international goal in the 94th minute after Haiti's Alexander Boucicot put Haiti ahead in the 69th minute. Behind a boisterous pro-Haitian crowd, the Haitians were whistled for 32 fouls on the night. With the draw, the USA's all-time record against Haiti now stands at 5-6-4. In addition to Califf, goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, defender Chris Albright and forward Jovan Kirovski all represented the Galaxy in the match.

MORENO MAKES FIRST START IN VENEZUELA UNIFORM: Galaxy forward Alejandro Moreno made his first-ever start for Venezuela last week as the vinotintos defeated Honduras 2-1 in an international friendly last Wednesday. It was the second consecutive national team appearance for Moreno, who came on in the second-half of a 1-1 tie vs. Australia on February 18.

TEN-GAME SEASON PACKS NOW AVAILABLE FOR 2004: The Los Angeles Galaxy have announced a 10-Game Season Ticket Plan for the 2004 season at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The Plan, which includes the Galaxy's MLS Opener on April 3 vs. New England Revolution, a fireworks extravaganza on July 4 vs. arch-rivals San Jose Earthquakes* and the home regular season finale October 9 vs. Dallas Burn, is available through the team's ticket office at 1-8773 GALAXY. The 10-Game Plan boasts a number of benefits including a guaranteed seat at all ten matches Galaxy home matches during the 2004 regular season, a substantial savings off the day of game prices, guaranteed premium giveaways, the ability to purchase additional tickets for each of the ten matches at the same discounted prices and a special twenty percent discount at the Team LA store at The Home Depot Center. The 10-Game Plan offers one match against every MLS team and a second match against the defending Eastern Conference champions Chicago Fire. Did you know ... The Los Angeles Galaxy open the 2004 MLS season on Saturday April 3 vs. The New England Revolution. The match will mark only the second time in history the club has played on that date, the first was 2-1 shootout loss at San Jose in 1999.
