Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Friday, May 16, 2014) - The Colorado Rapids learned today their potential opponents for the fourth round of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, facing either the Tampa Bay Rowdies or Orlando City at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The match will take place between June 10-18, with the exact date and ticketing information to be announced soon. Tampa Bay and Orlando will play each other in the third round on May 28.
The fourth round match will be the first time the Rapids have hosted a U.S. Open Cup match since July 10, 2007 when the Rapids defeated the California Victory 3-1 in a third round match. This is Colorado's third consecutive year participating in the U.S. Open Cup and their 14th overall appearance in the national tournament, in which they hold a 9-12-0 record (excluding qualifying matches).
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, an annual knock-out tournament featuring teams from all levels of American soccer (from amateur through MLS), is in its 100th year, making it the oldest continuously-running soccer competition in the United States.
