DENVER - The Colorado Rapids forced a Game 3 with a 1-0 victory in Game 2 of the 2002 MLS playoffs, presented by Budweiser, tonight at Invesco Field. The "first to five points" quarterfinal series is now tied at three points apiece with Game 3 this Wednesday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl.

The Rapids struck for the game-winner in the 78th minute after a few failed clearances by the Burn defense. From the right side of the box, Robin Fraser sent a low, driven cross into the middle. Rapids forward Chris Carrieri beat Burn defender Tenywa Bonseu to the cross and one-timed a right footer past Matt Jordan.

The Rapids came out firing in the first half and took the game to the Burn, especially in the first 20 minutes of action. For the half, the Rapids outshot the Burn, 9-4, and had two quality scoring opportunities on John Spencer free kicks at the top of the box that were deflected by the defensive wall. The Burn's best chance of the half came in the 36th minute as Jason Kreis and Ronnie O'Brien worked a give-and-go, freeing O'Brien in the left side of the box. O'Brien squibbed a right-footer, however, and Rapids 'keeper David Kramer easily corralled the shot.

The Burn came extremely close to opening the scoring in the 57th minute on a corner kick. Antonio Martinez played the ball into the box and Chad Deering's header from six yards out was blocked in the defense. The rebound fell to Ryan Suarez four yards in front of the goal but Suarez could not control the ball to get a good shot off.
