Rapids earn wild card playoff spot

Buffalo Silverbacks News Release
Buffalo, NY. The ABA Buffalo Rapids have earned a WILD CARD spot in the American Basketball Association playoffs after defeating the Newark Express on Sunday, 112-104. The Rapids had a strong showing for their final home game of the year both on the court and in the stands at Buffalo State College Sports Arena.
The ABA selection process is based on a complex power ratings formula similar to the Ratings Percentage Indux used to pick the wild-card teams and seed the field of 65 for the NCAA Tournament. The Rapids' latest win has qualified them to compete in the playoffs based on this ratings system. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "When 'Santa Claus' came in and took over this team in December, he had a monumental task in front of him - virtually starting from scratch in mid-season. The owners of the team, coach Rich Jacob and the team did a remarkable job under these difficult circumstances and we are very proud of them and proud of the way that Buffalo has responded to their efforts. They are certainly deserving of post-season recognition."
The date and venue for the Rapids first round of playoffs will be announced. For more information, contact rjacob@buffalorapids.com or visit www.buffalorapids.com or www.abalive.com.
