Rangers' Yantsis Commits to Queen's for 2020-21
June 24, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Kitchener Rangers News Release
The Queen's University Gaels announced via Twitter on Wednesday that Kitchener Rangers overage graduate Jonathan Yantsis has committed to the men's hockey program for the 2020-21 season.
Yantsis, 20, recently completed a four-year OHL career that saw him begin as an undrafted free agent signing ahead of the 2016-17 season. He'd go on to amass 97 goals, 52 assists and 149 points over 214 career regular season games, highlighted by a 50-goal season in 2018-19. He also collected 10 points (8-2-10) over 28 career playoff outings.
The 6-foot-3, 212Ib. winger from Markham, Ont. comes off a 39 goal, 20 assist and 59 point campaign over 63 games as an overager with the Rangers in 2019-20.
Yantsis, who attended camp with the Los Angeles Kings last summer, joins an impressive cast of OHL recruits headed to Queen's this fall including Flint Firebirds goaltender Anthony Popovich, Windsor Spitfires winger Luke Boka and a trio of defencemen in Kingston's Jakob Brahaney, Windsor's Thomas Stevenson and Peterborough's Jacob Paquette.
