Kitchener Rangers News Release
Kitchener, ON - The Kitchener Rangers announced today that free agent Matthew Hlacar (pronounced Luh-char), has committed to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the club.
"Matthew is another free agent we feel can be an impactful player in our league," said General Manager Mike McKenzie. "He showed well at the camps he has attended with us and had a solid season in the GOJHL. He uses his size and strength well on the ice and plays a hard game. Welcome to Kitchener Matthew."
The addition of Matthew Hlacar to the Rangers roster marks another exciting development for the team's future. Hlacar is a standout talent from the St. Catharines Falcons of the GOJHL, where he put up 16 goals and 38 points in 48 games last season. Prior to that, Hlacar played in the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs AAA system. Standing at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Hlacar's robust style of play and ability to dominate the ice make him a valuable asset for the Rangers as they continue to strengthen their lineup this offseason.
"It feels great to be signed with the Rangers, it's a great opportunity," said Hlacar. "I think it's a great place to play with the fans and it should be fun."
The 2006-born Binbrook, ON native, follows in the footsteps of prominent free agent signings like Adrian Misaljevic, who was a top-line winger and played an important role on special teams this past season. Former defenceman Arbor Xhekaj is currently on a two-way contract with the Montreal Canadiens, while winger Jonathan Yantsis registered a 50-goal season with the Rangers.
