Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
The Texas Rangers have selected Windy City ThunderBolts left-handed pitcher Shane Zegarac with their 42nd round selection in the 2009 MLB Draft.
A native of nearby Lansing, IL, the lefty went 1-2 for the ThunderBolts with a 6.48 ERA in four starts. In 16.2 innings, he struck out 15 batters. He took a hard luck loss on Wednesday night when he went 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and two runs, one earned. He did not walk a batter and struck out five.
"It's very exciting," said Zegarac, "to have a chance to play affiliated ball has been a dream of mine and I want to thank the Rangers for giving me the chance. I also want to thank the ThunderBolts for letting me show Major League teams what I could do at a higher level."
Zegarac came to Windy City after completing his career at St. Joseph's College (IN). For the Pumas in 2009, Zegarac went 5-4 with a 4.09 ERA. In 61.2 innings, he struck out 72 batters while walking only 20.
"I'm very happy for Shane and for him to have the opportunity to further his baseball career," said ThunderBolts manager Tommy Thompson. "I'm excited that the Texas Rangers have given him this chance."
Windy City will continue their six game road trip with a weekend series at Southern Illinois before coming home for a six game homestand starting on Monday night with Educator Appreciation Night on June 15 against the River City Rascals.
