O'FALLON, MO.-The Gateway Grizzlies hit a season-high six home runs Thursday night and hammered the River City Rascals 14-1 in front of 3,308 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

Charlie Lisk and Joseph Scaperotta each had two-homer nights for the Grizzlies (7-11). Lisk got the scoring started early, putting the Grizzlies up 2-0 with a two-run home run in the first inning. The home run followed a two-out single by Stephen Holdren.

River City (11-7) scored their only run of the night in the second inning with Ryan Wehrle scored on a wild pitch by Grizzlies starter Nate Melek.

Melek earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing only the run on four hits. He struck out four and improved to 2-2 with the win.

Alex Kerins put the Grizzlies back up by two when he led off the second inning with his second home run of the year.

The Grizzlies offense opened up in the fourth, scoring six times to chase River City starter Daniel Howard. Howard (1-1) lasted just 3.2 innings, giving up eight runs on six hits.

Scaperotta added his first home run of the night, a two-run shot, to get the scoring started. Phillip White added a two-run single in the frame and Holdren and Lisk each added RBI hits in the inning and the Grizzlies led 9-1 after four. Scaperotta made it 10-1 with a lead off homer in the fifth inning.

Holdren and Lisk capped a four-run sixth inning with back-to-back home runs.

Both Holdren and Lisk were 3-4 Thursday night with four RBIs each. Lisk now has 22 RBIs to lead the league. Scaperotta finished 2-5 with three RBIs. White was 3-5 with two RBIs. Kerins was 3-4 with the homer.

The six home runs hit by the Grizzlies was one short of the franchise record, set in 2005 in a game against the Evansville Otters.

The Grizzlies will travel to Rockford to begin a three-game, weekend series with the RiverHawks. First pitch Friday night is 7:05 pm.
