Grizzlies Finally Solve Rascals

River City Rascals News Release


O'FALLON, MO - The Grizzlies enacted some revenge on the Rascals Thursday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark, downing River City 14-1 behind six home runs. The Rascals are now 5-1 against Gateway this season.

Gateway (7-11) exploded for six runs in the fourth when eleven hitters came to the plate. Chad Rothford singled and Joseph Scarerotta followed with a two run shot for a 4-1 run advantage. Phillip White, Stephen Holdren and Charlie Lisk all had RBI singles in the inning for a 9-1 lead.

River City (11-7) plated their only run in the second off starter, Nathan Melek. Ryan Wehrle singled and advanced to third on an Andy Reilly doubled. Wehrle would score on a wild pitch by Melek for a 2-1 Gateway lead at the time.

The Grizzlies the scoring barrage with four more runs in the sixth. Holdren lifted a three run shot and Lisk followed with his second of the night.

Melek evened his record at 2-2, going six innings allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts.

Daniel Howard (1-1) was roughed up in his 3.2 innings, allowing eight runs on six hits with one strikeout.

Tony Kirbis made his first appearance for River City, tossing 1.1 innings allowing six hits and five runs (four earned) in his debut.

Lisk, Holdren, Joseph Scaperotta and Alex Kerins all had home runs in the win, with Scaperotta joining Lisk with two long balls.

Wehrle was 2-3 with the only run scored for the Rascals.

The Rascals will begin a three game series tomorrow night when the Evansville Otters make the trip to O'Fallon. Game time is 6:05 p.m. for Family Christian Night at the ballpark.
