Randy Gatewood Remains With Rattlers

Phoenix, AZ - Randy Gatewood, the AFL's 2003 Ironman of the Year, has re-signed with the Rattlers, the club announced today. The deal is for three years, and will keep Gatewood in Black and Copper through 2007. As per club policy, other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"I can't tell you how happy I am to keep Randy Gatewood right here in Arizona," said GM Gene Nudo. "Just like Sherdrick (Bonner) and Hunkie (Cooper), Randy is part of the heritage of this franchise, and he belongs with the Rattlers."
Gatewood appeared in 13 games during the 2004 regular season, missing the final three games with a broken arm. He caught 62 passes for 733 yards and 14 touchdowns, and added 35 tackles and four interceptions. He returned from the broken arm to play in two postseason games, making seven receptions for 73 yards and a score.
During his nine-year career, Gatewood has caught 483 passes for 6,361 yards and 151 touchdowns. He is the franchise's second leading tackler, amassing 302.5 stops, 18.5 tackles shy of tying Cecil Doggette for the top spot on the franchise all-time list. Gatewood's 28 career interceptions is a franchise record.
"I'm excited to be back with Arizona," said Gatewood. "This is where it all started for me, and I know it would have been strange to put on another helmet without that big "R" on it."
