Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Assuming the identity of Los Temblores de Rancho Cucamonga, the Quakes used three long-balls and scored in each of their last three innings, holding on for their third straight win, a 6-2 victory over the San Jose Giants at LoanMart Field.
Cody Thomas homered for the fourth straight day and broke a scoreless tie in the sixth with his seventh round-tripper of the year, helping Rancho move their overall record to two games over .500 for the first time all year.
As part of Minor League Baseball's "Copa de la Diversion", Los Temblores got some great pitching out of starter Tony Gonsolin and a combination of two relievers, as Rancho took three of four over San Jose.
Gonsolin fell one strikeout shy of matching his career-best, as he struck out nine batters, while allowing four hits and two walks over five scoreless frames.
Reliever Andre Scrubb (1-0) came out of the pen in the sixth and worked two scoreless frames in his Rancho debut to net the win.
Jason Richman worked the eighth, allowing a two-run homer to Jacob Heyward and Marshall Kasowski came on in a non-save situation, putting up a scoreless ninth.
Hamlet Marte added to the Rancho lead in the seventh, as he smashed one to straight-away center field for his sixth of the year, a two-run shot to make it 3-0 against Giants' reliever Sandro Cabrera (6-3).
Leading 3-2 in the eighth, the Quakes put three more on the board, highlighted by Rylan Bannon's team-high 17th home run of the year.
The win moves Rancho to 3-1 in the second half and two games over .500 for the first time in 2018, at 38-36.
The Quakes will hit the road on Monday, opening a four-game series in Lake Elsinore on Monday evening at 6:00pm. Right-hander Dean Kremer (5-2) will make his first start of the second half, while the Storm will go with right-hander Chris Paddack (3-1) in the opener.
On Friday night, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field, hosting Inland Empire in the opening game of a five-game series. Kike Hernandez Bobbleheads will be given away to 1,500 fans on Friday, June 29th, all thanks to Daisy IT. Game time is 7:05pm and gates open at 6:05pm.
