GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Arena Football League announced today that Grand Rapids Rampage kicker Brian Gowins has been selected as the AFL's Kicker of the Month for his performance during the month of February.

Gowins (5-10, 174, Northwestern), the 2001 AFL Kicker of the Year, helped his cause by nailing game-winning field goals in back-to-back games against the Colorado Crush (2/7) and New York Dragons (2/16). The former Northwestern standout connected on a league second-best 83 percent of his field goals attempts (5-of-6) and 74 percent of his extra points (28-of-38) during the month. This marks the first time in Gowins' four-year AFL career that he has garnered monthly honors.

Currently, Gowins, who has already surpassed his field goal total from last season (4), is fourth among AFL kickers in field goals (5) and scoring (43 points). He recently passed Michael Baker for second place on the Rampage's all-time scoring list and needs just 13 points to become the franchise's all-time leading scorer (Thomas Bailey - 432).

Gowins and the Rampage, who currently lead the AFL's Central Division, begin a three-game road swing against the Georgia Force (3-2) this Sunday afternoon at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga. The game, which kicks off at 12 p.m., can be seen live on WOOD-TV (Channel 8) and heard live on WBBL 1340 AM.
