Rampage To Honor Military Personnel Friday
March 25, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - This Saturday night, the Rampage will be honoring the men and women who are serving, and who have served, our country with their 5th Annual Military Appreciation Night. The Rampage, who will wear specially designed camouflage jerseys, will take on the Peoria Rivermen at the AT&T Center at 7 p.m.
A special highlight of Rampage Military Appreciation Night includes an exhibition game immediately following the game featuring the Rampage Sled Hockey Team. The Sled Hockey Team is comprised primarily of soldiers who have been injured while serving our country and are receiving therapy and rehabilitation at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) and Center of the Intrepid. The Sled Hockey Team is a joint effort between the Rampage and Operation Comfort. The team is coached by Lonnie Hannah, a former member of the U.S. Paralympics Sled Hockey Team that won the Bronze medal at the 2006 Games in Turino, Italy, and a Gold medal at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City.
The commemorative jerseys worn by the Rampage will be auctioned off following the game in the Express-News Headlines at the AT&T Center. Proceeds from the auction will benefit San Antonio's military community, specifically the Fisher House, the Fort Sam Houston Warrior and Family Support Center and Operation Comfort.
Last year, the Rampage raised $17,950 to benefit San Antonio's military community and have raised more than $58,000 over the last four years.
Other highlights of "Military Appreciation Night" include:
The Rampage have donated 500 tickets to military personnel for the game
The National Anthem will be performed by the Lackland Air Force Base's 737th Training Group Drum & Bugle Corps
A ceremonial puck drop featuring a member of the sled hockey team and Lt. Col. Rene Brown
The US Army Medical Command Band will be performing in the Sombrilla from 6-7 p.m.
Tickets are available and can be purchased at the AT&T Center box office, by calling the Rampage at (210) 444-5554, or by visiting the team's website at www.sarampage.com.
