Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
The Grand Rapids Rampage have signed lineman William Carr, who was named to the University of Michigan's All-Century team after a four-year career with the Wolverines. Carr recorded 180 tackles and 11 sacks from 1994-96 and earned first-team All-American and All-Big Ten Conference honors in 1996. He played in four bowl games with the Wolverines and tied a school single-game record with six tackles for loss against Minnesota. Finished as the school's third all-time leader in tackles for loss and garnered second-team All-Big Ten in 1995.
After his time at Michigan, Carr was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1997 and in his NFL career also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons. He began his Arena career with the Orlando Predators in 1999, where he played 12 of 14 regular season games and the entire playoff run including ArenaBowl XIII. Came into camp late with the Predators to fulfill his promise to his mother to earn his under graduate degree from the University of Michigan. Led the Predators in sacks as a rookie with 4.0, forced two fumbles and blacked a field goal. Attended the 2000 training camp with Orlando before going to NFL Europe for the season, where he split time with Barcelona and Rhein. He missed the 2001 and 2002 AFL seasons when he was in the NFL with the 49ers and Falcons. Carr came back to the AFL in 2003, when he played three games with the Georgia Force, where he registered 4.0 tackles and a sack in the playoff win over Dallas. Last season, Carr played in 14 games with the Force and led them in sacks (3.5). He also recorded 11.0 tackles and forced a fumble.
Off the field, Carr is very active in the community and was a finalist for the 1999 AFL Hero Award as the league's top player in the community. Set up a scholarship program at his alma mater University of Michigan and routinely donates tickets to his games to at-risk youth. Carr owns and operated his own clothing line called "Will-O." Attended Carter High School in Dallas, where he played football, basketball and track & field. In 1992, he was named the state of Texas' Defensive Player of the Year by the Austin-American-Statesman after posting 126 tackles and 24 sacks. That same year, Carter High won the 5A state championship. Carr is single and lives in Dallas during the off-season.
