Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA, FL -- The Tampa Bay Storm signed offensive/defensive lineman Clint Mitchell and defensive specialist Leonard Myers, head coach Tim Marcum announced. Mitchell is a former Florida Gator and Myers played for the Miami Hurricanes.
Both were also NFL draft picks following their collegiate careers.
Mitchell (6-7, 275, Florida) prepped at Countryside High School in Clearwater, Fla., before starring for the Florida Gators as a defensive end. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. He spent the 2003 season on the Broncos' injured reserve and was allocated to the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe for the 2004 season. With the Admirals, Mitchell recorded 24 total tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups, and a blocked kick.
With the Gators Mitchell earned Freshman All-American honors and was named to the Freshman All-SEC squad. He tallied 117 tackles, six sacks, and 17 tackles for loss in 26 games at Florida before declaring for the NFL draft following his junior season. Prior to his collegiate career Mitchell was a star at Countryside High School, tallying 122 tackles and 10.5 sacks as a senior en route to earning prep All-American accolades by various publications.
Myers (5-10, 195, Miami) was a sixth round selection of the New England Patriots in 2001 and played in 24 games in three seasons with New England and the Detroit Lions. His best professional season came in 2002 when he played in 15 games and recorded a career-high 14 tackles with a pass breakup and a forced fumble.
Myers, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., was a four-year letterman at Miami. He played in 42 career games for the Hurricanes and had 19 starts, finishing his career with 132 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, nine interceptions, and 35 pass breakups. Myers was named to the All-Big East second team as a senior and earned second-team All-Big East accolades as a sophomore. As a freshman, Myers intercepted a pass against Rutgers and returned it 64 yards, marking the longest interception return by a Miami freshman since Ray Lewis' 64-yard return against Rutgers in 1995.
